Danish and Swedish history meet in this magnificent place, as well as history of religion, science and military power. Herrevad Castle's historical roots stretch as far as the middle of the 12th century, then French Cistercian monks founded neighbouring Herrevadskloster.
Herrevad Castle and its buildings were added in the 19th century, when the facility housed the Scanian House Regiment's exercise squadrons. Between 1902 and 1958, the housed a depot for breeding and dressage of horses for the Swedish army. Young horses were bought every year from the farmers in the area and for a year the horses were trained and ridden.  
As the army modernized and the cavalry became obsolete, the training depot ceased to exist.
The buildings were used for a time as educational premisesThe Air Force. They are now converted into safe and exclusive accommodation, a venture that marries the grandeur of the past with the promise of the future.
